Distance Overcome

Distance Overcome

Companies want to provide information and training for staff, customers, and even vendors. How to do this without inviting the world into the conference room for class?

Consider distance learning technologies. Once the objectives are clearly identified, the right technology may be named and selected to meet that need.

At times, webinar applications meet the need, but some times they are not appropriate. Knowing what the learners are to know by the end of class - and what they are to do with that information - is key to making a selection that maximises chances of conveying the message so that it is remembers and that makes the best use of the dollars required to convey it.

If you are not sure how to answer the question of “What is our objective?”, contact the Chief Learning Officer to talk about it. If you think you have the right technology selected, ask about options.

Overcome distance with the best technology with the clearest message and most concrete statement of what the learner is to do once that message has been delivered. Always.

eLearning Budgets Growing

Education Investor (09/20/10) posted via ASTD’s “The Buzz” eNewsletter

A new survey from training content provider Good Practice and The Learning Sanctuary concludes that tighter budgets will increase the use of e-learning technology in the corporate training market.

According to the Learning Trends Index, 76 percent of learning and development (L&D) managers in the United Kingdom are forecasting wider use of such technologies as resources tighten. Eighty-seven percent of managers say they can still meet the training needs of their organization despite a decline in their resources. Along with the increased use of e-learning, 50 percent of respondents are expecting to increase their use of technologies such as social networking, while 64 percent are expecting to be more reliant on informal learning approaches. Peter Casebow, Good Practice's chief executive, says the survey "shows resources and staff provision for L&D departments continuing to tighten, [while] on the other hand it shows not only growing confidence in terms of the contribution and impact that L&D managers are having, but a belief that L&D managers can meet the learning needs of their organization."

The results "reveal the growing role of e-learning and Web 2.0 technologies as an enabler to help managers work more effectively with limited resources," according to Casebow.

While these numbers are from the United Kingdom, the USA is not dragging its feet. ASTD measures corporate optimism about training budgets, and its studies also indicate the trend is upwards. As we get new reports, we will extract some of the results and post here.
